The source material comes from a 1955 novel by Jack Finney, which was originally made into a film in 1956 by Donald Siegel (also responsible for such San Francisco classics as “Dirty Harry” and “Escape from Alcatraz”). "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" features such San Francisco landmarks as the Painted Ladies.
“You’ll be born again into an untroubled world,” says Nimoy after he’s been turned. One by one, the citizens of San Francisco are infected by toxic flowers and turned into mindless drones, free from both the trappings and pleasures of humanity.
Along with a cast of future A-listers like Leonard Nimoy (who plays a famous psychologist), Goldblum is on the front lines of a subversive alien invasion. His life becomes much more complicated after he finds a slime-covered replicant of himself. Goldblum was just 26 years old when the film was released in 1978, in which he plays a poet who co-owns a mud bath spa, because, of course he does.
